The Geeky Way to Scrapbook

For those of us who are more comfortable with a keyboard than a pair of scissors, creating a Scrapblog may be just the ticket. Think scrapbook meets journal - online that is.

Actually I found this service about a year ago. I thought it looked like a fun way to document and share my family life. I was already comfortable sending lots of virtual photo albums to family and friends. Plus, I was looking for a more formalized way of keeping a journal about my kids. So for the queen of efficiency this looked interesting. BUT, at that time, it was missing one key feature that kept me from signing up...There was no way to make a hard copy of the Scrapblog. When it comes to spending lots of time and effort creating a family history, I certainly wanted it in a format that withstands the test of time (and ever changing technology). I wanted it on paper! This summer when I contacted customer service about what I found as a key missing feature, they assured me that they were working on it. Well, it looks like they're done!

Here are some other cool features:

  1. You can create a Scrapblog that is either 'private' or public.
  2. You can share your Scrapblog on social networking sites like Facebook.
  3. You can grab your photos that are already on web-services like Flickr, Picasa, Webshots, Photobucket, and Smugmug.

(In fact, these are features that would be 'key' to my decision to use any type of online scrapbooking service).

With Scrapblog, you can even take a test drive without signing up!

This is definitely going on my list of things to try out. I'll keep you posted as to my experience. In the meantime you might what to check it out yourself. Let me know what you think.

If you are interested in creating the Geeky version of a baby book, check out these sites (keep in mind the printing feature when you explore):

These sites have got me thinking that I should really create 'retro-active' baby books for my kids.  The existing ones are disgraceful.
