Technology for the Multi-Tasking Mom

Here is a great post on the 5 best multi-functional technologies for busy moms. Since I have had the opportunity to integrate all of these suggestions into my routine, I whole-heartedly agree with the author.

My most recent acquisition was a smartphone and it made a tremendous impact on my productivity. I spend a lot of time in my car waiting for kids (at carpool, at practice, etc.). Now, I am much more efficient with this time....Here is a sampling of what I now do on the run:

  • Catch up on my email (I no longer miss those emails about practice being canceled because I was not home on the computer!)
  • Make my to-do lists
  • Schedule appointments using the household calendar that is synched online, on my computer, and my phone
  • Read the latest news stories from the Internet
  • Write blog posts for imomzone.com
  • Check friends' status on Facebook
  • Catch up on reading my favorite blogs
  • Jot down funny things the kids say or do and email them to my an online notebook

And I do actually make phone calls and text people too!

I was recently reading that, in the coming year, the largest anticipated uptake in market share for smartphones is expected to be among 'nonprofessionals'. I may not be working in a 'professional' capacity as of now, but I am working nonetheless, and my phone definitely helps me work 'smarter'.
